Working with the coordinators at our sister company, Simple Oahu Wedding on this styled shoot was a dream come true for us as an Oahu Wedding Photographer! Capturing beautiful weddings on this island is always a pleasure. So getting to also showcase all the possibilities for creating a picture perfect Oahu Wedding was so much fun! We can’t wait to see what our future clients do with these ideas 🙂 .
Enjoy these gorgeous shots of this styled wedding at Waimanalo Bay.
Be Inspired by Possibilities
We photograph multiple weddings every week, all of which are amazing. However, occasionally we set up a styled shoot with models to show what’s achievable for weddings in Oahu. Inspirational shoots are a great way to see options for floral, clothing styles, wedding locations and time of day and how it will all look in photos. Oahu beach weddings are always stunning, even without extra decor. But for the couple who wants something extra, the possibilities are endless!
Unique Wedding Floral
We love and always support sustainable practices so we were obsessed with the idea of using only locally sourced florals! We were in heaven when Floral Designer Debbie Hemingway came through with this fantastic bougainvillea arrangement. You can find Bougainvillea growing wild all over Hawaii, so it’s as local as it gets! And comes in the most vibrant colors, making it an amazing focal point in Oahu Wedding Photography!
Timing of Day Matters
We shot this styled wedding at the same time we would typically photograph a morning wedding. As an Oahu Wedding Photographer we wanted to showcase the lighting our clients can expect at this time of day. It was an exceptionally gorgeous day for this shoot, so we were able to show off Waimanalo Bay Beach in all its glory. With towering mountains in the distance and unreal aqua water it really was the most scenic setting!
We especially love the way the hot pink and coral in the bougainvillea stood out against the ocean! You can only get that color in the early part of the day, because as the sun gets more overhead the blues of the water get softer. So it’s important you know what you want so we can help you achieve your desired wedding photography. To make it easier, you can even check out the sections of our website to see weddings that take place in the morning and at sunset to decide what you prefer!
Easy & Appropriate Wedding Attire
While the setting and decor are definitely important in wedding photos, the most important element is the couple getting married! So we knew we needed to focus on this bride and groom’s wardrobe. We kept things simple for our model bride by putting her in a fitted lace dress by Alexis. Which we found from Rent the Runway, one of our favorite options for finding unique and stylish fashion. We love the idea of renting wedding clothing because not only can you get what you want for an affordable price, but it’s also a more sustainable option than buying a dress you will only wear once!
We found all of our groom’s wedding attire at Nordstrom Rack. And he looked incredible in these stylish navy pants, a light blue shirt, and festive floral print blue tie. Best of all he complimented our bride’s styling perfectly making all of these wedding portraits absolutely incredible!
Ideal Wedding Hair & Make-Up
A bride’s wedding styling isn’t complete without the perfect hair and make-up so we were so excited to work with our friends at Reveal Hair and Make-Up to create this look. And they did such a great job! We love how the red lipstick tied in with the bright bougainvillea floral arrangements. Now a bold lip and even full face makeup might not be for every bride, especially if she doesn’t wear much makeup on a regular basis. Which is why we always suggest a trial run so you can get used to the look you want, plus see how it will look on camera!
This loose braid hairstyle kept the hair out of our model’s face and was perfect for the shoot! Beaches in Hawaii are notoriously windy so a manageable hairstyle is an absolute must. Not only is hair in your face annoying in real life, but we also want to be sure to see that beautiful face in all your wedding photos!
We hope this styled Oahu wedding shoot has been inspiring, it’s definitely got us thinking outside of the box. We’re looking forward to capturing more creative ideas as our future clients’ Oahu Wedding Photographer. We love coming up with and capturing unique moments for our couples 🙂 .
Special thanks to our models Megan and Tim. Megan is actually one of our photographers, and we loved having the opportunity to get her in front of the camera. And it was great for her to get to feel what it’s like on the other side! Her boyfriend Tim was such a great sport and even took the day off from work to pose for us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
