Golden Hour – Zachary & Kayla’s Maui Beach Wedding

There’s a very specific kind of magic that happens at a Maui beach wedding, and Zachary and Kayla’s had it in spades. These two met ATVing through the mud with mutual friends five years ago, an origin story you don’t forget, and they never looked back.

The Perfect Spot

They chose Po’olenalena Beach for the ceremony, and the island delivered every bit of the drama they’d hoped for. Kayla walked down with her dad while Zach faced the ocean, refusing to peek too soon. Then he turned around. That’s the shot everyone was waiting for: sun low, waves doing their thing in the background, both of their faces doing the thing faces do when four years of certainty finally becomes forever.

Zachary and Kayla didn’t grow up dreaming of Hawaii together, exactly, but the island had been quietly waiting for them the whole time: Zach’s parents said their own vows on Maui thirty years ago, and Kayla’s parents honeymooned here not long after. So when this New England couple, an ATVing, water-skiing, pickleball-obsessed pair from New Hampshire and Boston, started talking destination wedding, their families practically shoved the plane tickets into their hands.

Kayla’s bouquet was a riot of warm fuchsia and tropical color against her white dress. Molokini floated on the horizon in nearly every frame, and not a single rock or cliff snuck into view. Apparently even paradise needs art direction sometimes.

A swift exit to Gather on Maui followed, for cake cutting and the kind of celebration that comes after you’ve been waiting since a Cape Cod sunset proposal last July 20th. Neither Zachary nor Kayla had ever been to Hawaii before this trip. Somehow that makes it sweeter that their first island memory is now a wedding day.
