Some proposals come after months of planning and secret Pinterest boards. Others come after nearly seven years of building a life together, with two cats, a shared love of Hawaii, and a relationship that feels like home. For Alec and Courtney, this Kauai proposal portrait was the kind that had been quietly waiting to happen! And Hawaii, as always, provided the perfect backdrop.
Alec and Courtney met back in 2017 at Brown University and have been inseparable ever since. Seven years of growing careers (both in finance, so yes, they know how to juggle stress), New York living, vacations, laughter, and most recently, raising their sweet little cat Lilly, with a new kitten, Daisy, joining the family as soon as they return from this trip. So yes, you could say the timing for this proposal was exactly right.
They had planned a much-needed Hawaiian escape, starting with four days in Kauai. It’s a place they’ve both visited many times and never get tired of (because honestly, how could anyone?). And while the official couple’s photoshoot was scheduled for the Big Island later in the trip, Alec had something much more personal and private planned for their Kauai stop: a surprise proposal at Shipwrecks Beach.
And oh, what a perfect spot it was.
It wasn’t elaborate or showy; it was simple, heartfelt, and exactly what they had both dreamed of. Alec asked. Courtney said yes! And for a moment, it felt like even the ocean paused to witness it.
The light that was absolutely glowing, soft and golden, the kind of light you wish you could bottle and bring home. The cliffs at Shipwrecks were dramatic and beautiful, with hidden coves and little pockets that our photographer masterfully used to create the most magical setting.
Afterward, they wandered through the beachside cliffs, soaking in every second. The waves crashed dramatically against the rocks below, the breeze played with Courtney’s hair, and the newly engaged couple simply glowed. The photographer captured it all, sweet candid moments, quiet laughter, and those dreamy little looks that say we just did this.
It was one of those sessions where the location, the couple, and the light all conspired together to make magic. Shipwrecks Beach delivered everything: sweeping cliffs, tucked-away coves, and that gentle Hawaiian beauty that somehow makes even the most personal moments feel grand.
Alec and Courtney, congratulations on your engagement and Kauai proposal portrait! After seven years, your story continues into an even more beautiful chapter. May your future be filled with just as much love, laughter, travel, and maybe a few more cats (because, let’s be honest, we can already see it happening). Hawaii will always be your special place, and now it holds a little extra meaning!

It was one of those Big Island mornings that felt like it had been tailor-made for sweetness, light breeze, soft light, and the kind of quiet joy that lingers long after the last photo is taken. The Vienneau family arrived at Old Kona Airport Beach for a lovely Big Island family portrait. But let’s be
