Tides & Teenagers – The Kim’s Maui Family Portrait

There’s something about Hawaii that turns even the most composed family into a group of giggling, joy-soaked adventurers, and the Kim family? They dove into that golden hour magic during their Maui family portrait like pros.

This crew of five brought equal parts heart and hilarity to their Maui family portrait session at DT Fleming Beach. It was the kind of session that makes us fall in love with this job all over again. From the second they arrived, they were ready: coordinated (thanks, Mom!), smiling, and buzzing with energy.

We had the honor of photographing the Kim family before, during a stunning morning session, but this time, they wanted something different…

All The Love

DT Fleming was a serene backdrop for their portrait session. The waves roll in like clockwork, endless, rhythmic, and perfect for capturing moments that are equal parts candid and composed, with tall teenagers and their proud parents framed in the background. The Kims played in the surf, posed in the breeze, and laughed their way through every frame. They had so much fun playing…as they say, boys will be boys!

Being from New Mexico, the ocean is a novelty for the Kims. They just love the ocean, and Maui is a truly special place for them. So they are all for the lush greenery and salty ocean vibes!

They are very close and are also celebrating their middle boy, Tyler’s graduation, and moving on to college! How exciting! Congrats Tyler!

And can we talk about the wardrobe? Mom nailed it. The coordinated colors were effortlessly beachy without being too matchy-matchy (a pro move). The sandy neutrals and soft blues were effortlessly cool.
