When listening to Kenneth’s vows to Monica, it was hard not to get lost in the moment. They were the kind of vows that made you want to put the camera down and just listen. There may or may not have been a few tears shed in the viewfinder that day. Monica had some pretty amazing vows as well and by the end of the ceremony, there weren’t very many dry eyes among the guests. It was such a joy to capture Kenneth and Monica’s Maui Wedding Photography and what a beautiful wedding it was.

As seasoned wedding photographers in Maui, we train ourselves to feel the emotion of each ceremony and translate that into photos. During certain weddings, it can be difficult to take in what is happening and not getting overcome yourself. This was one of those weddings that it was a little harder to do.

I Carry Your Heart With Me (I carry it in)

Besides the heartfelt vows of our couple, another emotional moment in the ceremony was when Monica’s dad read a poem by E.E. Cummings called [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in]. The words were striking and seemed to fit the couple perfectly:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
                                                      i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

It added such a special touch and was even more impactful than the traditional “giving away” that a father does at the beginning of the ceremony. The poem signified the support they have from Monica’s dad and the entire family. After the heartfelt ceremony officiated by Al Terry, there were lots of hugs and encouragement from their friends and family before we took formal portraits.

That Glow Tho……

Once the group made their way to Gannon’s for the reception we got some quiet time with Monica and Ken and it’s hard to tell if that beautiful glow is all the sun or that love that is radiating from them. They were so easy to photograph as the emotion was so genuine and overflowing. The perfect lighting and the gentle breezes made their couples portraits something out of a dream.

As a wedding photographer in Maui, this is the kind of wedding you want to photograph every time, emotional and stunningly beautiful.

Another heartfelt touch was Monica wore her mother’s veil. We had to get some beautiful photos with it to document it and hopefully show to a future daughter who might want to keep with the tradition!

Once the sun had set, we said farewell to this awesome couple so they could go relax and be in the moment with their guests at the reception. Monica and Kenneth, thank you SO much for choosing us to be your Maui wedding photographer and document your amazing wedding. It was such a pleasure to spend time with you and get to witness and document the beginning of your journey together as husband and wife. Take care of each other, and be sure to come back to Maui for anniversaries!
