Oahu Family Portraits, Round Two: The Kahooilihala Family

Last summer, they flew in from Texas for a golden hour session at Waimanalo Beach. This summer they traded the east side for the North Shore, setting up at Papailoa Beach with a bonus mission: senior portraits for oldest son Asher who is heading into his senior year of high school. Sophomore brother Ryker tagged along too, no doubt taking notes for when it’s his turn.

The whole family showed up in soft blues and creams that looked like they’d been mixed straight into the ocean, which made every frame feel like it belonged on a postcard nobody wanted to mail because they wanted to keep it. There were barefoot walks along the shoreline, brothers standing shoulder to shoulder with matching arms-crossed swagger, and a very cooperative rainbow that showed up like it had read the shot list.

Asher got his own moment too, all quiet confidence and golden light, the kind of portraits that say “I’m ready for what’s next” without needing to say anything at all.

And because no Kahooilihala session is complete without a little chaos, the evening wrapped with everyone jumping and waving into the sunset, arms flung wide, looking exactly as happy as they clearly were.

Watching this family return to the islands year after year is the kind of thing that makes this job feel less like work and more like play! Here’s hoping Ryker’s senior session is just as much fun to shoot, whenever that beautiful, inevitable day arrives.
