We captured these photos on the shores of DT Fleming Beach! We love taking pictures first thing in the morning because there’s always vibrant lighting. During this session, there were a few silky clouds in the sky. Yet, they didn’t block the sun’s rays! Then decorating the background were breathtaking landscapes. You can see the foamy cerulean waves, striking lava rock formations, and rich greenery! Above all, this spot created the perfect backdrop for family photos.
Why They Took Beach Portraits in Maui
Before their session, the Sullivans told us they take group portraits often. However, Hawaii holds a special place in their hearts! The first time they planned to visit, they were going to bring their twin boys — who passed away shortly after birth. Last year, they were going to vacation with their youngest son on the island; sadly, they lost him in pregnancy before the getaway. Whenever the Sullivans are on the beach, they think about their three sweet boys. Once we learned this, we knew these moments were more than just pictures! These portraits are a way to honor and remind them of the children they’ve lost.
The Sullivans consist of four people! Krystal, her husband, Tim, and their two daughters. The youngest, Charlie, is five years old and a free spirit! You can see her bright personality in every Maui beach portrait. Then Charlie’s older sister is named Jordan. She is seven years old — going on seventeen! Although this little one has Type 1 Diabetes, she’s a strong girl! We loved capturing her confident and bold essence.
