Okay, so picture this: a quiet beach, soft waves, golden light dipping into a classic Big Island sunset, and a woman turning around to find the love of her life on one knee, with a ring that definitely caught the last rays of sun like it knew it was the moment to shine.
Kengo and Christianna’s Big Island proposal portrait was pure movie magic, but it was real, emotional, and totally unforgettable.
They’ve been together for 7 years (!!!), with 2.5 of those years spent long-distance between the U.S. and Japan. But now they live together in Tokyo, and have officially entered their inseparable era. This trip to the Big Island was especially meaningful. Kengo went to high school in Waimea and wanted to bring Christianna to this place that holds so many memories. What better way to make a new one?
And oh, did he plan. Kengo (and our photographer) went full ninja mode, enlisting us for a stealthy surprise proposal at Kukio Beach complete with secret signals, strategic hiding, and heart-racing anticipation. And when the moment came? She turned, saw him down on one knee, and absolutely lit up. The surprise, the joy, the bling, it was all so beautiful, so genuine, so them.
They laughed, they hugged, they kissed, they beamed. Christianna showed off her new ring like the queen she is, and the beach around them turned golden in celebration!
After the proposal, we captured some of the sweetest portraits, barefoot kisses, stolen glances, and pastel light wrapping around them like the island itself was saying, yes, yes, yes. Christianna couldn’t stop smiling (and flashing that gorgeous ring), and Kengo looked like a man who had just pulled off the most romantic surprise of his life. Because… he did.
Kengo and Christianna, thank you for letting us be part of this stunning chapter. Your love story has traveled oceans and somehow landed here, perfectly timed with the tide.

The Layton family came to Hawaii with full hearts, bare feet, and two beaming, adorable kids who were very ready to take on the beach, and let me just say, their Oahu family portrait session? A total highlight reel of joy. From the second we met, their excitement was contagious. It wasn’t just “yay, vacation!”
