Every once in a while, we’re invited to photograph a family milestone that feels bigger than words, and the Bayer’s Big Island family portrait at Old Kona Airport Beach was exactly that.
This trip marked Jim and his wife’s 50th wedding anniversary, a golden milestone made even more meaningful by the fact that their three children, four grandchildren, two great-grandsons, a sister and her husband, plus a niece and her family, all came together to celebrate. Twenty loved ones, one beautiful island, and a week filled with adventures: night snorkeling with manta rays, fishing trips, and even a visit to the volcano. But at the heart of it all was one simple desire, to capture this rare, precious gathering in photos they’ll treasure forever.

Old Kona Airport Beach gave us the perfect canvas. With its sweeping shoreline, rugged lava rock, and the Pacific glowing in the evening light, it created a backdrop that felt both cinematic and intimate. We leaned into candid photography for this session, capturing genuine laughter, warm embraces, and the playful chaos that only happens when you gather multiple generations in one place.
For Sandra and Bob, who first honeymooned in Hawaii 50 years ago, it was a full-circle moment. They’ve returned to the islands again and again over the years, escaping Alaska’s long winters to bask in Hawaii’s warmth. But this trip, the one where all of their family stood beside them on the beach, was something extraordinary. And that’s exactly why this Big Island family portrait was so important!

As the sun dipped lower, it poured across the beach in waves of gold, wrapping the family in a glow so cinematic it stopped us in our tracks. Their Big Island family portraits weren’t just beautiful, they were stunning, every frame showered in golden light that made the moment feel larger than life. It was the kind of session where you look at the back of the camera and whisper, wow!

Bayer family, your portraits are more than pictures; they’re treasures of the loving family you’ve built. Congratulations on 50 years, on creating a family that shines, and on a golden evening that will forever be remembered as a true wow moment!

If proposals were movies, Eric and Carla’s would be an Oscar contender, equal parts romance, suspense, and jaw-dropping scenery. Their Kauai proposal portrait at Tunnels Beach was the kind of moment that makes you believe the universe occasionally dips into full cinematic mode. Eric had a plan, and it was a good one.
