Okay, picture this: soft golden sand, palm trees swaying in the breeze, waves doing their sparkly thing in the background. And the Ching family absolutely glowing with joy! Their Big Island family portrait session at Kukio Beach was special for so many reasons, but let’s start with the fact that it was their fourth time working with us at Karma Hill Photography!(Cue our happy dance!) And while all of our past sessions have been on Maui, this was our first Big Island adventure together, and wow, did it deliver.

Summer is the perfect time for family portraits. The light is like spun gold, the ocean is dreamy blue, and there’s something about the season that just brings out the playful, relaxed energy in everyone. And the Chings? They brought that sunshine energy times ten. Their session was filled with genuine laughter, warm hugs, and the kind of candid moments that feel like home wrapped in sunlight. We love how well they coordinated in their florals and pastels!
Kukio Beach gave us everything, powdery sand, volcanic rocks, swaying palms, and that expansive Big Island sky. Every backdrop felt like it was designed specifically for this family. The Chings looked radiant and right at home, like they’d been laughing together on that beach forever.

It’s always an honor to work with families again and again. And the Chings are pure joy to capture, every single time! To the whole crew: thank you for trusting us with your memories, for bringing the love and light, and for reminding us how much magic lives in the in-between moments. It’s so lovely to see generations gather together and just be present with one another. Truly special and something you’ll never regret!
Here’s to many more family adventures, Big Island style!

There’s something about a Big Island senior portrait session that feels like a main character moment. And Skylar? She understood the assignment. Set against the dreamy shorelines of Pauoa Beach on the Big Island, Skylar’s senior session was one part celebration, one part reflection, and one part “Wait, how are we already here?” (Cue emotional
