A Maui family portrait session doesn’t get much better than this. If there were a Frequent Flyer card for families who are absolutely smitten with Maui, the Davis family would already be platinum members.
This trip marked their second visit to the Valley Isle, and while they’ve always been the kind of family that loves exploring new places, Maui has officially earned “forever favorite” status. And honestly? We get it. Sun-drenched beaches, deep blue horizons, and a kind of magic you can’t bottle. Once you’re hooked, you’re hooked.
From the moment they arrived, you could feel their excitement. Every little thing, the breeze off the ocean, the salty air, even the sunshine, seemed to greet them like an old friend. They’d been counting down the days, and now, they were finally back in their happy place!
Their family portrait session at Ironwoods Beach felt more like a celebration than anything else. It’s hard to imagine a more perfect backdrop: dramatic cliffs, rolling waves, and the kind of blue ocean that makes you question if your eyes are seeing real life or a screensaver. The sun was bright, the breeze was gentle, and the whole scene practically begged for laughter and barefoot joy.
And oh, did the Davis family deliver.
The kids were absolute sunshine, sweet, playful, and so clearly happy to be back. Their Maui family portrait shows off unfiltered happiness that only comes when you’re relaxed, together, and totally present.
You could tell how close this family is. The kind of closeness that doesn’t need a prompt to smile or a script to pose. They just are. Loving, connected, and completely present with one another.
Every photo we captured felt like a piece of a larger story, a story of return, of tradition, of choosing joy in a place that feels like home. These Maui family portraits will sit beautifully alongside their favorite Hawaii memories, like tiny time capsules of sun and sea and laughter. Another chapter in what we suspect will be a lifelong collection of island adventures.
The best part? It didn’t feel like a formal session. It felt like an afternoon with a family that knows exactly what matters. And for them, it’s this: being together, surrounded by beauty, with sand between their toes and the ocean at their feet.
We’re so honored to have captured these memories for you. Until next time (because we know there will be a next time), thank you for letting us be a part of your island tradition!

Some Big Island proposal portraits are meticulously planned. Some are spontaneous. And then there are the ones that feel like they’ve been written by the universe itself with a hidden photographer, a perfectly timed rain shower, and the kind of magic that makes you believe in forever. Kerwin pulled off exactly that for their Big
