Every once in a while, there’s a portrait session that feels bigger than just pretty pictures. The Deng’s Big Island family portrait session at Pauoa Beach was exactly that. It was a rare, heartfelt celebration of love, legacy, and togetherness across continents and decades.
This wasn’t just a vacation. It was the vacation! Because for the first time in ten years that both sisters, their families, and their parents from Taiwan were all in the same place at the same time. Not since a wedding a decade ago had they all shared space, stories, and laughter like this. And now, here they were, toes in the sand, breeze in their hair, trying (and succeeding!) to freeze time for just a little while.
Their father, the traditional, quietly proud patriarch, had just retired. After a career that kept him busy and family time scarce, this trip was his well-earned moment to soak it all in. This indeed was a rare moment,t and we were honored to capture it for them!

The Dengs have not been in the same place together in ten years! Isn’t that incredible? Grace’s parents flew all the way from Taiwan to Hawaii for this very special moment for everyone. What a journey! But certainly well worth it! Together, the group made up a vibrant, warm, deeply connected family unit that lit up the Big Island shore.
The photos? Timeless. Full of real connection. We captured it all, the quiet pride, the playful moments, all the generations, and the joy that comes from knowing this time is fleeting and so worth remembering.

And it felt like the island was in full agreement, too, with the amazing sunset to end their Big Island family portrait. This wasn’t just a portrait session. It was a love letter to the past and a keepsake for the future.
