If proposals were movies, Eric and Carla’s would be an Oscar contender, equal parts romance, suspense, and jaw-dropping scenery. Their Kauai proposal portrait at Tunnels Beach was the kind of moment that makes you believe the universe occasionally dips into full cinematic mode.
Eric had a plan, and it was a good one. Our photographer went full stealth: ninja-style hiding in plain sight with a long lens, blending into the scene as if simply photographing the coastline. Carla had no idea what was coming. She and Eric strolled along the sand, the ocean stretching endlessly on one side, the dramatic emerald mountains of Kauai towering on the other…

And then just as the golden light started to spill across the beach, making everything glow, Eric stopped, turned to her, and dropped to one knee. The timing was impeccable. The light hit, the waves hushed (or maybe that’s just how it felt), and in the background, the ridges of Tunnels stood proud and green, their peaks brushed with gold.
She said yes, of course she did! And in that moment, the world seemed to lean in and listen, the sun dipping lower, the colors deepening, and the ocean whispering its applause.
Tunnels Beach is a place that feels almost unreal, with a dramatic coastline, a lush tropical backdrop, and a kind of wild beauty that makes every moment feel more alive. Here, it was the perfect stage for this scene. The proposal was intimate but grand, heartfelt but framed by nature so spectacular it almost felt orchestrated.

After the big yes, the beach felt like it exhaled. Our photographer popped out of ninja mode and slipped into guide-on-a-stroll mode, leading Eric and Carla down the shoreline for portraits in that honeyed, last–light glow. Tunnels had thinned to near-empty, just sand, sea, and those cathedral-tall ridges, so it was blissfully quiet except for the hush of the waves.
We kept it simple and serene: slow walking shots at the water’s edge, fingers laced; forehead-to-forehead moments where the world shrank to two. We leaned into our favorite style: candid, clean, and true-to-color, with just enough direction to keep them comfortable and a lot of space for real emotion.

Eric and Carla, your proposal wasn’t just stunning, it was a masterpiece in golden light and island magic, forever framed by one of Kauai’s most beautiful places. Congrats, you two!

When Joe reached out to us, he had a plan, a brilliant, heartwarming, sneaky little plan. He told Leilani they were just taking couples portraits on their Hawaii vacation. A fun photo session, nothing out of the ordinary. But hidden behind the casual smiles and hand-holding on the itinerary? A ring and a once-in-a-lifetime surprise
