On Maui at Last – Brett & Karly’s Couples Portraits in Hawaii

Brett and Karly had originally booked an island wedding through our sister company, Simple Maui Wedding, but had to cancel their big “I do” due to the pandemic. With plans shifted a bit, we were thrilled to still have the opportunity to meet them during their Couples Portraits in Hawaii! We met up on the shore of Southside Beach for fun and romantic Maui photography!

We love getting our couples’ toes sandy at Southside Beach. With almost constant sunny weather, plenty of rustic backdrops, and relatively calm trade winds, this is the perfect location for soft and dreamy Couples Portraits in Hawaii. On the topic of perfect, how perfect are these two for each other?! We can not get enough of those sweet smiles. 

Our Couple’s Story

Karly works as a large animal veterinarian in California, dealing mostly with horses on the ranch. Brett is a Butcher for a local supermarket, and has a small farming business called “Birds Bees & Olive Trees” that raises squab for restaurants, grows olives for olive oil, and raises bees for honey. On their rare free moments, Karly and Brett enjoy camping, kayaking, hiking, and gardening.

Karly and Brett were introduced by a mutual friend who worked at the insurance company that oversees Karly’s home. The friend knew Karly had gotten divorced and was single because Karly had changed her Home Owners Insurance to her only! Inspired by her sleuthing skills, the friend felt Karly and Brett would be a great fit for each other. Karly said, “I believe this is her second match made that got married … maybe she should change careers :)” 

Karly and Brett were engaged after many trips and plans were destroyed by COVID. So instead, Brett asked Karly to marry him at their home, down at the barn, on a Sunday morning, with all of their animals — including the baby cow they’ve been raising, two labs, one teacup poodle, at least one cat, and two adult cows.
