Some sessions just radiate warmth, and the Matt family’s Maui family portrait at Southside Beach was one of them, from the very first laugh to the final golden rays of sunlight.
This wasn’t our first time photographing the Matts, which made the day feel like a reunion with old friends. Their boys, now teens, have grown so much since our last session, but they’re still just as special. There’s something about photographing siblings at this age: a mix of playful teasing, quiet connection, and those genuine smiles that happen when no one’s overthinking it. This session was just as special as this lovely family is, as you’ll see below!

Southside Beach gave us its very best version of itself that evening. As the sun began to dip toward the horizon, the sky shifted into a warm, golden haze, and the light wrapped around the family like a soft embrace. Sunset really is the best time for portraits here; there’s a softness to it, a richness that turns every frame into something timeless.
Our style of photography leans into those in-between moments. Yes, we capture the posed shots, the ones perfect for frames on the wall, but we also love the candid laughter, the way hands rest naturally on shoulders, and the way the light catches a smile. The Matts embraced it fully, giving us moments that were both beautiful and completely real. We are here for it! Their boys were total pros to boot!

We photographed the whole family together, just the boys, and a few individual portraits to show each personality. Every image feels like a new chapter in the visual story we’ve been creating together over the years. And the sunset was so incredible to end their Maui family portrait! The pastel colors, the palm trees, and the waves… it all came together so beautifully.

Matt family, we hope these portraits find their place alongside your previous session, reminders not just of how you’ve grown, but of how love, connection, and golden Maui sunsets never go out of style! Have so much fun!

When Joe reached out to us, he had a plan, a brilliant, heartwarming, sneaky little plan. He told Leilani they were just taking couples portraits on their Hawaii vacation. A fun photo session, nothing out of the ordinary. But hidden behind the casual smiles and hand-holding on the itinerary? A ring and a once-in-a-lifetime surprise
