The Miyata’s Maui family portrait at Maluaka Beach felt like a celebration of life in motion, a rare pause button during a year that usually moves at lightning speed.
With family on Oahu and busy lives back home, it had been far too long since their last family photos. Liam, a talented saxophonist in the thick of band activities, is preparing to apply to music school next year. Emma, heading into 8th grade, splits her time between ice skating and caring for her middle school’s resident goats and chickens. And John and Bianca? They’re juggling work, kids, and three family dogs, doing their best to keep up with it all! We know how that is!
Vacation is when they slow down, reconnect, and take the time to savor the little things. This trip felt especially meaningful; it’s the last chapter before Liam heads to college and Emma leaves middle school behind. So this was a perfect moment to slow down, take a breath, and embrace some quality family time as a new season of change is on the horizon. We first started their session with some senior portraits for Liam, which was the perfect warm-up for some family photos, too!

We continued their session by the ocean, the waves rolling in behind them while they laughed and leaned into each other. Then we moved to the soft sand, arranging the family in relaxed, easy groupings that still had plenty of room for natural smiles and spontaneous moments. The light at Maluaka was soft and perfect, wrapping them in warmth without stealing the show.

And we took some more senior portraits for Liam when the sky opened up! He brought his quiet confidence, his easy smile, and that spark of someone ready to step into the next big thing. Against the ocean backdrop and with the golden sun dipping low, they were the kind of shots destined to win “Best in Class.”

Miyata family, congratulations on this exciting chapter! Here’s to holding onto these moments before the next big adventure begins! Good luck with all your exciting endeavors!
