There are moments when a family finally aligns in one place, calendars cleared, flights coordinated, everyone there. And you can feel how special it is the instant it happens. The Smyth family’s Kauai family portrait at Shipwrecks Beach was exactly that kind of moment. Visiting a place they already knew and loved, they gathered for their very first full family get-together, fifteen people strong, and it felt nothing short of meaningful!
Shipwrecks Beach set the scene beautifully. The sweeping shoreline, dramatic cliffs, and open sky gave the group space to breathe, move, and simply be together. With a family this size, the goal wasn’t perfection. It was connection and quality time. And that’s exactly what unfolded. We captured the full group, smaller family units, sibling moments, grandparent connections, and individual portraits along the way, letting each combination tell its own story…

What made this session work so effortlessly was the family’s willingness to lean into the experience. No pressure. No stiffness. Just laughter and the kind of comfort that comes from shared history. Portraits don’t have to feel formal or stressful, in fact, the best ones rarely are. When families allow themselves to move, interact, and enjoy the process, the photos become reflections of real relationships rather than posed moments.

For the Smyths, this session became more than a photo shoot. It was an experience they shared together. It was a reason to gather, laugh, and celebrate being in the same place at the same time. These images now serve as reminders of a rare and joyful moment in their family’s story. We know how hard it is to get everyone together, which is what made this session even more special!

Their Kauai family portrait was just what they hoped for. A full family together in Kauai, barefoot on the sand, surrounded by natural beauty and genuine connection. It doesn’t get more special than that! We hope you have a great time!

David had been rehearsing this moment, a Maui proposal portrait, in his head for weeks… the words, the timing, the way he’d lead Maria across the sand as if they were simply taking a sunset stroll. But nothing could have prepared him for how perfect it all became at Southside Beach. The soft Maui light
