Eighteen years of experience. That’s how long our Maui family photographers have been wrangling toddlers in sandy swimsuits and convincing dads that “one more photo” isn’t the end of the world.
We’ve heard every question before a session. When should we book? How long do we smile before the kids mutiny? Which beach won’t leave us all windblown? And, the classic: what do we wear without looking like a matching cruise-ship excursion?
This guide has the answers: timing, locations, pricing, backup plans for when Maui’s weather decides to show off, plus exactly what’s included in each package. In short: less second-guessing, more smiling.

Book your family photo session early in your Maui vacation planning process. Once you have your flights and hotel booked is the best time to secure the perfect date. This allows you time to plan outfits for a perfectly cohesive family look.
Get your photos taken in the first few days of your trip. Booking at the beginning of your stay will help you avoid sunburns and unwanted tan lines in your photos. Contact us with any additional questions, then you can easily Book Online 24/7.
A typical Maui family photo session lasts about one hour, which is usually ideal for a family of up to six. That extra time gives kids under 10 a chance to warm up and ensures we capture plenty of natural smiles without anyone feeling rushed.
For larger sessions, we recommend:
Booking the right amount of time means no one feels hurried, and everyone leaves with portraits they’ll love.

Our team has photographed families all across Maui, but we keep coming back to these top four favorite beach locations, split between South Maui and West Maui. You can find additional information about the look and attributes of each spot on our Maui beach portrait locations page.
Each beach has its own vibe, so reach out and we can help you pick one that matches your family’s style.
Most professional Maui photography sessions range from $599 for mini sessions to $1,499+ for large groups (plus tax). Pricing depends on two main factors: the size of your group and the hours of coverage you choose. The number of digital images you’ll receive is based on your session length, and some packages even include your entire photo collection

Yes professional family photos are worth it….and here’s why:
We capture your toddler’s sandy grin or that hug with Grandpa you know you can’t get back…..Our clients know family photos are worth it. This year alone, 67 families returned to us for another family session. Some have booked with us eight times over the years and are still booking more shoots. That kind of loyalty says it all: Maui portraits aren’t just pictures, they’re priceless moments people decorate their house with, keep in their wallet and send to friends and family for holiday cards.

Luckily, the weather is rarely an issue at our Maui photo locations, most of which are actually in desert areas of the island. Because of the way clouds move around the island, it’s common for one beach to be rainy while another just minutes away is perfectly clear. If conditions ever do get too bad, we’ll simply reschedule at no extra charge.
Maui Weather Tip: Try not to stress over the forecast before your trip. On Maui, weather reports are notoriously unreliable, maybe 15% accurate at best. Different sides of the island also experience totally different conditions, with some getting most of the rainfall while others stay sunny and dry. Always remember a little rain brings rainbows.

The best outfits are those that feel comfortable, coordinated, and true to your family’s personality. We recommend soft neutrals, light blues, creams, and earthy tones that naturally complement Maui’s landscapes. Flowy dresses, linen shirts, and fabrics that catch the breeze always photograph beautifully and stand the test of time. To keep the focus on your faces, it’s best to avoid bold patterns or large logos.
For kids, keep it simple — lightweight cotton and outfits they can run and play in work best. Barefoot is encouraged!
Our complete ‘What to Wear’ guide includes tips on color palettes, outfit combinations for large groups, and even examples of families who nailed their Maui look.

Yes, combining family photo sessions with friends is completely fine. The key is to plan for enough photography time to capture great photos for all.
It often takes families a different amount of time to warm up to the camera or calm an unhappy little one, which can cut into the photo time for the entire group. So be aware of what the implications of booking a multiple-family photo session are.
To keep things relaxed and fun, it’s best to book a little more time than you think you’ll need for multiple-family shoots.
Please reach out to our photo team for advice on how much photography time is needed before booking, and we can balance your photo time with your group size.

Morning and sunset are the best times for Maui family photos, but the right choice really depends on your family and the look you’re going for. It’s less about the exact clock time, since sunset shifts throughout the year, and more about the overall style and atmosphere you want captured.
